Wasiq and Dr. Mirza Ali Azhar, recently called on Maj. Gen. Rizwan - Chief of Rangers in Karachi, to discuss the issues of killing, kidnapping, extortion and harassment of doctors.

The meeting was also attended by Brig. Basit Shuja, of Rangers with his team and DIG Sultan Khawaja (CID) and SSP Nasir of Sindh Police. In this meeting these problems were discussed in detail and some important and crucial decisions were taken with mutual understanding. It was agreed, that all doctors will be facilitated in getting get weapon licenses for their personal protection and at the same time training will be imparted to them for proper use of the weapons. The doctors will also be allowed to carry their weapons without any legal or administrative hindrance.

According to another important decision an anti-extortion (crime reporting cell) will be established by Rangers at the PMA House. This cell will function 24/7 and a communications network will be established with the Police Department. Small networks will also be established in the different troubled areas of Karachi, to provide direct access to the security cell established at PMA House. These cells will monitor, register and take necessary action regarding criminal activities against doctors.

The Rangers and Police officials also advised the doctors to follow some pre-cautionary measures to avoid these threats and criminal activities. The doctos were advised to install CCTV cameras at their work place. So in case of a crime, the recording of these CCTV cameras will help in identification of criminals. It was agreed that all these decisions will be implemented in a shortest possible time.
