Quality Excellence Centers for ‘Maternal And Child Health’ Being Setup In Sindh

KARACHI- Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) has recently decided to provide technical assistance to Sindh Health Department for the establishment of ‘Quality Excellence Centres’ for ‘Maternal and Child Health’ in public sector health facilities of the province of Sindh, in order to reduce the ratio of maternal and neonatal deaths in the society.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC),  Dr. Minhaj A Qidwai stated that, SHCC will be providing the required technical assistance to the health department for capacity building of Nutritionists, Pediatricians, Obstetricians and Gynecologists, to bring about improvement in maternal and child health care system, through provision of quality care.

He further added that, a quality circle will be designed to improve coordination between Pediatrics and Gynecology departments within the premises of hospitals.

A provincial consultation meeting on quality of care for Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent health was organised by SHCC and UNICEF, in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) where all stakeholders were invited to gather their feedback to formulate a comprehensive strategy.

The health experts from province of Balochistan also participated in this meeting.

Dr. Minhaj Qidwai also informed that the heads and medical superintendents of public sector hospitals will identify the health facilities to establish ‘Quality Excellence Centres for Maternal and Child Health.’

Chairperson, SHCC, Prof Dr. S. Tipu Sultan said that all stakeholders were invited at the Sindh Consultative Meeting to get their point of views regarding the healthcare system, to further improve its quality.

Renowned Gynecologist, Dr. Sadiqa Jaffery added that, the practicing Obstetricians and Gynecologists should engage in consultative awareness meetings to achieve positive results in future, leading to reduction of maternal and child deaths that are reported annually from the country.

Dr. Razia Safdar of Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, lauded the Sindh Health Care Commission for organizing the consultative meeting, saying that it would improve indicators.

Dr. Sohail Sehto appreciated the Sindh Health Department and the efforts they are making towards the advancement of health sector by introducing quality care in health facilities of Sindh.
