THATTA: The dialysis centre functioning at the Makli District Headquarters Hospital for years has been closed without a prior notice.

The patients who have been receiving treatment at the centre were told on Thursday that the hospital administration had run out of funds to continue with the dialysis process.

Explaining the situation to the disappointed patients, Mr Maqsood, the manager of the centre, said that none of the doctors, nurses, technicians and other staffers had been paid their salaries for two months.

He said the district administration was supposed to release Rs1.3 million.

Established by the Oil and Gas Development Company and the British Petroleum Pakistan in 2006, the centre is run through the district administration.

A district administration official told Medical News that the required funds had already been put at the disposal of the deputy commissioner but could not be released as the relevant social development committee failed to convene its meeting for the last two months to give its necessary approval.
