IoBM Society of Health Managers celebrates annual healthcamp

Karachi: The CBM Society of Health Managers, part of MBA Health and Hospital Management program at Institute of Business Management, organized its fifth annual health camp for students, faculty and general public at IoBM Korangi, Karachi. The event comprised of different pharmaceutical, health and allied industries providing free consultations and diagnostic services to the public. The two day event began on Sunday 16th of March, 2014 and continued to give exceptional and high quality services till 17th of March, 2014. The entrepreneurial stall highlighted the business achievements of the MHM students in various arenas of healthcare delivery and services.

The highlight of the event was the participation of Dr Adeeb Rizvi and promotion of his recent cause of organ donation in Pakistan. Dr Adeeb Rizvi educated the students of IoBM about the pressing need of deceased organ donation in Pakistan and empyhasized the role of youth in changing the mindset of the nation. The camp also arranged for organ donation registration. Various awareness sessions by eminent consultants on skin, healthcare IT, eye care and basic life support were arranged for students.

Dr Asima Faisal, the Head of Department of the program stated that such events are needed in business schools to create health awareness among students and faculty, and to create an empowered and healthy society. The theme of this health camp was empowering health, based on the concept of third generation medicine.

The President of the society, Dr Tayaba Naim Khan, stated that it is important for students and youth to understand their role in creating a health conscious and aware society, both in terms of prevention and giving back to the society in form of organ donations.

The event was organized by the faculty of IoBM Dr Humeira Jawed and Dr Shahida Mirza with students of MHM program. The event was able to generate meaningful research insights about the current and emerging problems in health among youth in Karachi.

Dental News Pakistan was the official print media partner for the event. Participating organizations included SIUT, Hashmani's, GSK, Pfizer, Sana Omair Foundation, Indus Hospital, Essa Laboratories, ATCO, Aman Foundation and Pharmevo to name a few.
