Gynecologist appointed as Chief Psychiatrist in PIMH

LAHORE, 9th July: It was recently observed that a doctor qualified and experienced in Gynecology, has  been appointed, to fill the vacant post of Chief Consultant Psychiatrist in the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH). This was revealed by health sources.

According to available information, the vacant of post of Chief Psychiatrist of BPS- 20 had remained vacant for the last many months. On repeated requisition from the hospital management, the health department hos appointed a gynaecologist of BPS-20, namely Dr. Kausar Ikram on the post of Chief Consultant Psychiatrist.

Despite repeated contacts with the relevant officials of the Punjab health department, nobody bothered to respond or answer. However, a few officials of the hospital management did state that: They had come to know about this vacant post of BPS-20, which can be filled by any qualified doctor working on the same grade. Thus, the functions and operations of the hospital could be managed swiftly.

Punjab Institute of Mental Health, which is the biggest institution of mental ailments in the country has been providing mental healthcare to at least 500 patients every day. As its Out Patient Departments are suffering a severe shortage of staff, the operations are hindered and the existing staff is facing hardships in meeting the hospital needs. Over fifty posts, including senior psychatarists, psychiatrists, medical officers, Neuro-physiologists, pathologists, physicians, DMS, RMOs, pharmacists, nurses (male & female), technicians, lab technicians, assistant librarian, paramedics and other cadres have been lying vacant in the PIMH for many years now. However, the health department has sanctioned nine posts of pharmacists, but their appointment could not be materialized so far.
