Free Hepatitis vaccination for University Students begins

Karachi: Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programmeunder the Chief Minister Initiatives program has started screening and vaccination of students of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST).

Around 5,000 students both male & female screened and vaccinated during month long camp which was started on 25 August and will continue till 25 September 2014. 

Vice-chancellor FUUAST Prof Zafar Iqbal inaugurated the camp. Focal Person & Senior Monitoring Officer Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme Karachi DrKazim Raza Memon, Assistant Prof Microbiology Department SaherAfshanNaaz, staff and students were present on this occasion.

VC FUUAST Prof Zafar Iqbal welcomed the establishment hepatitis camp in university and said it will help to save students from contracting diseases in future. He appreciated the role of microbiology department and hepatitis program for organizing hepatitis camp in university.

DrKazim Raza Memon informed that 4000 students would be vaccinated against hepatitis B, while screening of 1000 would also be carried out in camp. He said hepatitis programme would provide free of cost treatment facility to students. He said camp will start from 10am and continue 1pm from Monday to Thursday on daily basis. He said around 200 students would be vaccinated every day in hepatitis camp established at Microbiology Department. 

Provincial Manager, Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme (Chief Minister Initiatives), DrZahoor Baloch said program management has launched special hepatitis vaccination campaign throughout the Sindh province in phases after Eid-ul-Fitr and drive is successfully underway in province.
He informed monitoring officers of program has started special hepatitis vaccination campaign across the province and holding camps in different districts of province in phases where people will be vaccinated and educated about the disease.

He said although screening and vaccination centers have been established in almost every district of province for hepatitis patients but organizing camp is part of special drive to counter hepatitis disease.

Baloch said Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme had successfully organized camps in Matli area of Badin district and Kot Ghulam Muhammad, Mirpurkhas district. He informed that in the next phase camps would be arranged in Hyderabad, Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Karachi and special teams have been dispatched in this regard.
