Free Eye Camp at PEBS

KARACHI- A ten-member delegation of Chinese ophthalmologists/ eye surgeons and support staff arrived in Karachi to perform 500 cataract eye operations at Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS) Hospital North Karachi from January 10, to January 24, 2018.


Medical Director Pakistan Eye Bank Society, Hospital, Dr Qazi Wasiq, informed that under ‘Bright Journey Pakistan’ project, 500 eye operations are to be carried out by the Chinese team of ophthalmologists free of cost at PEBS Hospital Karachi. He said this is in pursuance of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Chinese Medical Association (CMA) collaboration to strengthen Pak-China medical corridor.



The inauguration ceremony of the free eye camp was held on January 10, 2018 at PEBS, Hospital Karachi. Dr Qazi said more than 500 patients throughout Sindh province have been registered through screening camps for surgeries. He said a ten-member delegation comprises eminent Chinese ophthalmologists, nurses, technicians and other staff.


Dr Qazi said this is a first ever such activity as a gesture of goodwill and to promote friendly relations between the two countries. He hoped that similar activities will follow in other fields of medicine throughout Pakistan.


Earlier, four member Chinese delegations headed Deputy Director, International Health Exchange Cooperation Centre (IHECC) China, Ms Hu Meiqi signed an MOU with Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), and offered to bear all expenses in organizing of the free eye camp as a gift to the poor & needy patients of Pakistan from China. The Chinese team had also visited PEBS hospital to evaluate available facilities and discussed details of protocols & SOPs for the planned free eye camp.
