FIA to scrutinize NOCs of Medical Colleges

05:09 PM, 1 Apr, 2017

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will start probing the issuance of approvals to medical colleges lacking requisite facilities and faculty.

The Federal Investigation Agency has been directed after the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan took notice of media reports that some medical colleges have been issued NOCs despite the fact that they lacked the required facilities to run MBBS classes, and the FIA has been directed to probe the case.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) is the authority to issue the permission for setting up a medical or dental college after taking into account that the applicant institute meets the required criteria. A comprehensive inspection protocols are followed before the permission is granted.

However, there are a number of colleges who do not meet the criteria but haven managed to get the permission using their influence and financial muscles.

The FIA has been tasked to ascertain if this is the result of negligence of PM&DC or there was some connivance of its officials in this illegality or both.

A probe has also been initiated against the illegal sale and transplantation of human organs by organised gangs in connivance with some doctors.

The FIA would report both the cases to the interior ministry within 15 days.
