Civil Hospital house officers stage protests over non-payment of salaries

Karachi: The House Job Officers of Civil Hospital Karachi staged protests and a sit-in demonstration for non-payment of four months’ salaries outside the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.

Around 200 house job officers of CHK have been deprived of their salaries for the last four months and the hospital administration has failed to address or resolve this issue. They protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with different slogans, imploring the management to release the salaries. Prominent slogans included ‘We want justice for doctors!’ and ‘Stop injustice with doctors!’   

One of the protestors, Dr Bilal while speaking to the media personnel said that the house officers had been serving in different wards of hospital but the administration had deprived them of their salaries since last four months. He said “We are passing through economic crises and facing great hardship over non-payment of their salaries.”

He further explained that the administration of hospital had initially paid salaries for two months after a three month delay and now they have informed the doctors that their salaries will be issued by the Accountant General Sindh. He said that the hospital administration refuses to coordinate with the doctors despite their many, repeated requests.

He said that all house job officers will boycott their OPD duties if the administration failed to release their salaries by the 27th October 2014.
